Pierce Brosnan’s linocut of Vincent Van Gogh reflects his deep admiration for the artist’s legacy. Brosnan, known for blending self-reflective elements into his work, finds a personal connection with Van Gogh, renowned for his evocative self-portraits.
This piece was inspired by Vincent Van Gogh: The Lost Arles Sketchbook, a long-cherished book in Brosnan’s studio. Describing it as a “treasure trove,” Brosnan recalls being drawn to its cover, sparking the creation of this linocut. He reimagined Van Gogh’s iconic lines, gestures, and forms through his own creative lens.
Brosnan credits Van Gogh’s cross-hatching, fluid arabesques, and dramatic storytelling as lasting influences on his work. These elements guided the linocut, blending homage with Brosnan’s unique interpretation.
Brosnan envisions Van Gogh as more than a painter—perhaps a filmmaker or cinematographer, with a gift for composition, light, and drama. Through this piece, Brosnan captures not only Van Gogh’s likeness but also his visionary spirit, celebrating the timelessness of his genius.
